Outdoor rooms are all about the view – use your favorite view as the third or fourth “wall” of your outdoor room.
In light of the outdoor room’s soaring popularity, from house to Home ™ has amassed guidelines and tips from some of the most noted exterior designers on how to best define your outdoor space.
Tailor your outdoor paradise for its unique use and purpose. Doing your preliminary homework before selecting furniture will pay off well in avoiding future design problems, according to HGTV host rick Kaldrovics, who also helms Outside Landscape Group in Atlanta. “Name the room first” he insists. “is it a dining room? Kitchen? Lounge? What will you do there?” Then Kaldrovics highly recommends doing an actual mockup of the “room” with tape and cut outs to place the appropriate furniture. This will ensure seamless traffic flow.
Outdoor Entertainment Statistics
According to the National Association of Home Builders, 80 percent of homeowners in 2005 said it is important to have an outdoor living space where they can relax and entertain. Thirty-five percent said they had a finished outdoor room, and 34 percent said they were planning to design one in the next one to two years.
